Create a hosted notice during setup
- In the Privacy step, choose Create a hosted notice.
- Confirm your business details.
- Answer a few questions about how you handle messages.
- Read the notice we prepare and tick the box to use it.

You don’t need to write legal text; adding your own wording is optional. The notice uses your saved questions and retention setting. No website or Pro subscription is needed.
Change the notice later
Later, open the form’s Settings → Privacy, choose Preview my privacy notice, then Save reviewed notice. Changes to questions, retention or what notification emails include require a fresh review before republishing. The published notice remains available while the form is paused.
Reuse your business details in later forms
The account owner saves the Business & privacy details once in account Settings. Later forms can reuse them, and each form can have its own changes. You can also choose an existing form to copy details from. Updated defaults do not change published notices: open each affected form, use the updated details and review before publishing.
Already have a notice?
- When creating your form, choose Use my existing privacy notice under Your privacy notice.
- Paste your notice’s full https:// link into Privacy notice link.

Your notice should describe your business’s use of these inquiries. Visitors can open it before sending a message.
No website? Use a public document
- Prepare your business’s notice in a document service you use. The draft worksheet below helps you get started.
- Share the notice as view-only for anyone with the link. Publish only the notice, not customer messages or other private files.
- Open the link in a private browser window. Check that the notice is readable without signing in or requesting access.
- Paste that link into your form. Keep it available and update it when your practices change.
If you use your own notice
You only need this if you link to your own notice instead of the one we write for you. Describe:
- who you are and how to contact you
- what you collect and why
- the legal basis you rely on
- who handles the information, including makeform.live
- how long you keep it
- how people can exercise their rights
Include relevant international transfers and other details required for your situation.
Setup suggests keeping inquiries for 90 days. Match the notice to your chosen setting and any copies you keep elsewhere. makeform.live’s own privacy policy describes our service; it does not replace your business’s notice.
If notification emails include inquiry details
If a form’s notification emails include inquiry details, say that the inquiry is sent by email to the people who handle it, and that those emails aren’t deleted with the inquiry.
Legal requirements for your notice
For example, the UK ICO’s privacy information guidance explains the UK requirements. Your notice needs to match the laws and practices that apply to your business.
Start with a draft worksheet
Copy this into a document and replace the bracketed instructions. It is a starting point for ordinary contact inquiries, not a finished policy or legal approval.
Edits stay in this browser tab and are lost when you leave. We do not save or publish this draft.
For UK businesses, the ICO’s privacy notice generator (opens in a new tab) asks guided questions. Other countries have different requirements.
Review your notice before publishing. The worksheet is not legal approval.
