Send to other apps by email

Many apps give you an email address that turns emails into cards, tasks or conversations. Add that address as a notification email, and each new inquiry arrives there too. Works on Free and Pro.

How it works

  • Each form sends notification emails to 1 address on Free and up to 3 on Pro. An app’s email address uses one of those places.
  • On Free, the app’s address replaces your own notification email for that form. Every inquiry is still saved in your makeform.live inbox, but you won’t get an email for it. On Pro, add the app as a second or third address.
  • What arrives depends on the form’s Settings → Notifications. With Link only, the card says a new inquiry arrived and has a View inquiry link that needs a makeform.live sign-in. With Inquiry details, it also contains the visitor’s answers.

Copy the app’s email address

Trello

  1. Open the board menu and find Email-to-board.
  2. Choose the list for new cards.
  3. Copy the board’s email address.

ClickUp

  1. Open the List’s menu and choose Email to List.
  2. Copy the address.

Tasks created by email don’t start ClickUp automations.

Help Scout

  1. Open the inbox’s email settings.
  2. Copy the address Help Scout gives you for forwarding email into your inbox.

Apps change their menus and plans. If you can’t find the address, check the app’s own help. Other apps that accept email can work the same way. Send one test inquiry first.

Keep the address private
Anyone who has it can add cards or tasks. Trello creates them as the board member whose address it is.

Add it to your form

  1. Open the form and choose Settings → Notifications.
  2. Under Send notifications to, choose Add another email on Pro, or Change on Free.
  3. Paste the app’s address and choose Send verification code.
  4. The code email arrives in the app as a card, task or conversation called “Your verification code · makeform.live”. Open it and copy the six-digit code.
  5. Back in makeform.live, enter the code within 15 minutes and choose Verify email. You can then delete the code card.
The form’s Settings, Notifications: Send notifications to lists owner@example.test as Verified, and a second address, studio-fern-board@example.test, has a code sent, with the Verification code field and Verify email.

The account owner or a Member can do this. Don’t use the app’s address as your account’s default notification email in Settings → General: account notices go there too.

Send a test inquiry

Open your live form and send a short test message. A card, task or conversation should appear within a few minutes. Each one is titled with your form’s name followed by “new inquiry”.

Don’t reply from the app
Replies go to makeform.live, not to your visitor. Answer visitors with Reply by email in the inquiry. Turn off automatic replies for messages from makeform.live, so your app doesn’t answer our notification emails.

Good to know

Copies stay in the app

Deleting an inquiry in makeform.live doesn’t delete the card, task or conversation. Trello also keeps a copy of each email for 90 days.

Inquiry details are stored in the app too

If you include them, your visitors’ answers are kept in Trello, ClickUp or Help Scout. A hosted privacy notice already says notification emails can include the inquiry; if you link your own notice, check it says so.

If emails stop arriving

If the app rejects our emails, we stop sending to that address and the form shows Emails not arriving. Fix the address in the app, then verify it again.
